29th Annual Scott Robertson Memorial in the Books – Chuwait Wins

May 20, 2012 by

The 29th installment of the Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament was completed today on what proved to be a great weekend for golf at the Roanoke Country Club in Roanoke, VA.  The weather was fantastic and the competition was fierce.  Some outstanding juniors from the DC Metro area, the USA, and the world competed for the coveted hardware that accompanies the title of Champion in this popular event that boasts such former Champions as The Golf Boys member Hunter Mahan, Webb Simpson, and Kevin Na.  Not to be out-shadowed, on the girls side, Paula Creamer, Jessica Korda, and Kristy McPherson.

In the Boys 14 and Under Division, Nathan Chuwait of Herndon, VA remained steady over 54 holes to capture the win.  Chuwait went into the final round tied for 2nd, one stroke behind Peter Knade of Easton, MD.  Today, Chuwait made the turn at 1-under 34 and weathered two back-to-back  late-round bogies on the par 4 15th and the par 3 16th to complete the round at even par.  His margin of victory (72/72/71 -215) was three strokes over Steven Dilisio of Swampscott, MA (72/75/71 – 218).  Knade finished with a T7 after his third-round 80 (72/71/80 – 223).

In the Boys 15-18 Division, DC Metro area junior Maclain Huge of Lovettsville, VA posted rounds of 73/70/70 (213) for even par over the 54 holes of play.  This was good enough for a T6 for the Virginia Tech-bound Huge.  Last year, Huge finished T4 at 211.  The 2012 Champion is Davis Womble of High Point, NC who put up rounds of 71/68/69 (208) finishing at 5-under.

In the Girls 15-18 Division, Bryana Nguyen from Columbia, MD started the final round in the T22 position.  She posted another round of 75 that was enough for a final T23 placing (75/76/75 – 226).  The defending 2011 Champion Moriya Jutanugarn (Bangkok, Thailand) did just that and defended her throne by going nine under, (66/69/69 – 204).

Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA) grabbed a 6th place tie in the Girls 14 and Under Division with rounds of 77, 80, and 77, for a total of 234.  Delaney Shah of North Potomac, MD posted a disappointing 84 in the final round to finish right behind Brooks in 8th place.  Shah put up rounds of 72, 79, and 84 for a 235 total.  Hiu Lam Vanessa Yan (Bradenton, FL) was the victor finishing at 5 over (77/71/70 -218)

A great showing on the part of DC Metro area players.  For all the scores, make sure to check out the tournament website, Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament.
