SERVPRO CAGT at Westfields – Day One Wrap Up
March 26, 2011 by Mike Garth
Cold weather and a sometimes stiff breeze at Clifton, Virginia’s Westfields Golf Club made for tough scoring on the first day of the SERVPRO Junior Golf Tour’s “Virginia Junior” sponsored by VI Transportation.
Only two players broke 80 on day one. The lowest score of the day was recorded by Keon (Chris) Ho Song (Centreville High School, VA), playing in the Boys 16-18 division, who posted a steady 77 after shooting just +1 (36) on the front nine. Matt Spooner (West Springfield High School, VA) and Nikos Pavlis (McLean High School, VA) round out the top three spots in the division after day one, but Song’s lead looks commanding.
Buzz Ganow (Battlefield High School, VA) posted a 79, including a 1-over “37″ on the back nine, to take the lead in the Boys 13-15 division. Drew Mueller (John Paul the Great High School, VA) is just two strokes back of Ganow after posting three birdies, the most of any player in round one. Still, he is only two strokes clear of Jack Sheehan (Suffern High School, NY). Evan Santa of Edgewater, MD and Adrian Stewart (Bowie High School, MD) are both within a couple strokes of Sheehan.
In the girls division, Juhee Bae (Chantilly High School, VA) leads Nicole Feaster (Heritage High School, VA) by five shots after firing an opening round 84. Catie Liebeck (West Potomac High School, VA) sits in third.
The younger boys are led by the always seady Graham Hutchinson of Bethesda, MD who set the pace with an 83 to lead both Charlottesville’s (VA) Ian Buchanan and David Ross of Burke, VA by just four strokes. Jake Miles of Spotsylvania, VA sits two strokes back of third place.
Play in the 36-hole event is scheduled to resume Sunday afternoon. To see all the scores from the 1st round, see the Tour website.
