January 17, 2011 by

Maclain Huge (Lovettsville, VA) put together a 75 in the final round and found himself with a Top-15 finish at the first AJGA event of the year.  This is a great way to start the year for the high school  junior who has verbally committed to play for Virginia Tech beginning in the fall of 2012.  Huge finished at 224 (74, 75, 75).   Huge is currently ranked 243 in the Polo Golf Rankings.

Jay Pinkos (Clifton, VA) managed a Top-20 finish, posting a final round of 74 for a three-day total 225 (76, 75, 74).  Pinkos, a senior at Paul VI, is currently ranked 212 in the Polo Golf Rankings.

A great start for both these players.  The DC Metro area was well-represented in Puerto Rico this week.

The Boys Champion was settled by sudden-death playoff.  Jason Roets, a South African residing in Howey in the Hills, Florida got by Julian Lerda of Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Both finished the 54-hole tournament at 1-over, 217.

The tournament, a 54-hole stroke play competition, was played at Trump International Golf Club’s Championship Course.  The field featured 78 juniors from 17 countries and 15 U. S. states, as well as 10 players from Puerto Rico. The par-72 Championship Course played to 7,198 yards for the boys and 6,087 yards for the girls.  There were no junior girls from the DC Metro area competing.
