Bae Takes Medal at AJGA Qualifier, Plays Her Way Into the Main Event

September 2, 2010 by

Ju-hee Bae (Fairfax, VA) took medalist honors in the Girls Divsion at today’s qualifier for the American Junior Golf Association’s (AJGA) upcoming Woodward Video Junior at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV.  Bae, who just last week tied for 6th place at the AJGA Junior at Kingsmill Resort and Spa, can only be described as on fire and playing with a lot of confidence right now.

Putting up three birdies en route to a 2-over-par 72, she cleared her next competitor, Jennifer Lee (Tacoma, WA) by two strokes for the honor. She attributed a reliance on her putter and being comfortable on the greens as the key to her success.

“My round was really good today,” Bae said. “I wasn’t hitting great shots but my putts were rolling in, so that felt great.  I had good speed and I was really reading the greens well.”

In the Boys Division, the DC Metro area has four players that qualified for the main event.  They are:

Addison Coll (Arlington, VA) 36-35–71
Robert Balaban (Bethesda, MD) 35-37–72
Christopher Hickman (Centreville, MD) 37-36–73
Brian McCormick (Kensington, MD) 37-36–73

John David Sanderson (Suffolk, VA) and Zachary Bauchou (Forest, VA) shared medalist after posting 68s (2-under)

The Qualifier was an 18-hole stroke play event held at The Greenbrier Resort — The Meadows Course. The field featured 61 boys and 12 girls ages 12-18, from 18 states and Canada. The Boys Division played the par-70 course at 6,539 yards, while the Girls Division played at 5,855 yards.

Tomorrow the entire field goes out to play a scheduled practice round.  Tournament play begins on Saturday (9/4).  The event is a 54-hole stroke play tournament with cuts being made after 36 holes.

[...] In addition to Brewer and Merrill, Chantilly sends both Vy Do and Ju Hee Bae, both of whom played in the CoEd event, to this tournament.  Bae is one of the favorites, having finished second to Coughlin among the female players at Nansemond.  In addition Bae, a 15 year old freshman, won AJGA qualifiers at both the Greenbrier and Leesburg’s River Creek over the summer.  Read more about Bae, here.
