Ten Locals Qualify to Play in AJGA Junior at River Creek

Yesterday, the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) conducted a Qualifier for the AJGA Junior at River Creek. The 18-hole stroke play event was hosted by The Piedmont Club in Haymarket, VA. The Qualifer field consisted of 84 boys and and 15 girls. Of the twelve boys that qualified and opted to play in the tournament this week, seven are from the DC Metro area. The Medalist was Christopher Bushey of Smithsburg, MD who made the loop in 2-under, 70.
The DC Metro area players qualifying are: Christopher DiSciullo (Ijamsville, MD) 1-over, 73; Robert Balaban (Bethesda, MD) 2-over, 74; Eung Lee (Rockville, MD) and Keegan Boone (Bethesda, MD) 4-over, 76; Tyler Olmsted (Boyds, MD) and Matthew DiSalvo (Great Falls, VA) 5-over, 77; and Bandar Alsaif (Great Falls, VA) 6-over, 78.
Others qualifying in the Boys Division are:
John David Sanderson (Suffolk, VA) 2-over, 74
Jesse Lowe (Shepherdstown, WV) 3-over-par 75
Trevor Times (Williamsburg, VA); 4 over-par 76
Trey Kidd (Honolulu, HI) 4-over-par 76
Timothy Gregg (Bethesda, MD), the eighth local to qualify, fired a 3-over, 75, but opted to take an AJGA Tournament Exemption rather than playing in this week’s event. Gregg can use that exemption towards a future AJGA event.
In the Girls Division, of the 15 juniors looking to play their way in to the tournament, the DC Metro area was well-represented. Players qualifying and opting to play are Ju-hee Bae (Fairfax, VA) at 5-over 77, and Catherine Gonzalez (California, MD) at 87.
Other qualifiers are Alexa Schendelman (Gilbert, AZ) 7-over, 79, and Kayleigh Reed (Virginia Beach, VA) at 92.
Jordan McKelvin (Westminster, MD) shot a 7-over, 79, to qualfiy but opted to take an AJGA Tournament Exemption.
Former Haymarket resident, Alexandra White (Honolulu, HI) had the low overall round for the Girls Division, finishing at 1-over, 73. Like McKelvin, she opted to take a Tournament Exemption.
The “official” tournament practice round for the AJGA Junior at River Creek is today. The 54-hole stroke play tournament begins tomorrow. The River Creek Club is located in Leesburg, VA.
