Long Putts Secure Wingo’s Win at Kingsmill
August 26, 2010 by Mike Garth
Tyler Wingo (Fairfax, VA) went wire-to-wire at the AJGA Junior at Kingsmill Resort and Spa in Williamsburg, VA. Going into the third and final round of the tournament, Wingo had a three-stroke lead after shooting 68, 67 (145) on the River Course. However, the margin of lead didn’t remain that way. With a one-stroke lead going into #16, he bogied the hole and made it a new tournament. A two-hole tournament.
On #17 approach, he left himself just off the green and about 30 feet away. He elected to putt. A wise decision as he drained it for birdie to regain the lead. After putting his drive in the right rough on #18, he showed great recovery skills to par the hole and take the win by a stroke. Wingo finished the day with a 73 (208). Evan Russell (Essex Junction, VT), who was 5 shots back and tied for 5th after the second round, came up big shooting a 2-under, 69, to finish one shot behind Wingo for the second place.
In the Girls Division, Kelly Shon (Port Washington, NY) overcame a two-stroke deficit for the win. She put up the low round of the tournament in the Girls Division with a 4-under, 67. She finished the tournament at 4-under, 209, clearing the rest of the field by 4 strokes. Daniela Lendl (Vero Beach, FL) placed second at 213.
Ju-hee Bae (Fairfax, VA) was the top Girls finisher among the local DC Metro area players competing this week. She finished with a T6 – 72, 75, 73 (220).

Ju-hee Bae of Fairfax, VA finished tied for 6th place at the AJGA Junior at Kingsmill Resort and Spa in Williamsburg, VA.
