Brewer Wins, Hyun Takes Second at AJGA Junior at River Creek
August 6, 2010 by Mike Garth
The third and final round of the AJGA Junior at River Creek was in the path of two major thunderstorms that passed through the Leesburg, VA area yesterday. The storms caused power outages in the thousands and fell trees throughout northern Virginia. With that, and the players enduring two weather delays, the AJGA made the decision to call the tournament after 36 holes as it became impossible for the entire field to complete 54 holes.
Shabril Brewer (Herndon, VA) won by a two-stroke margin over Samantha Wagner (Clermont, FL). Brewer finished the tournament at 1-under (72-71, 143). Sara Stanley (Centreville, VA) took third (75-72, 147). In the Boys Division, Zheng Liang (Bradenton, FL) also won by a two-stroke margin over local DC Metro area player, Noori Hyun (Centreville, VA). Liang finished at 8-under (66-70, 136) to Hyun’s 70-68, 138.
Andrew Lister (Haymarket, VA) finished within the top-5 grabbing a tie for third place with Drew Kirby (Baton Rouge, LA). Lister posted 69-71 while Kirby put up 73-67 for two-round totals of 140.
It was great to have the AJGA visit the northern Virginia area with many of the players in the DC Metro area playing in their first-ever AJGA event. To see all the scores and to read more about the event this week, check out the AJGA’s website here.
