Denny McCarthy of Burtonsville, MD grinded back from a 3-stroke deficit to Oliver Schniederjans (Poweder Sprigns, GA) to win the Junior PGA Championship at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. McCarthy posted a 3-under 69 today and finished the tournament at 9-under, 207. Anthony Paolucci (Del Mar, CA) placed second after shooting a 68 today and finishing at 210. Schniederjans had a tough day, posting a 76 (211) and finishing tied for third.
While McCarthy has certainly been floating near the top of big tournament leaderboards for the last year and had a victory at the national level last July at the 41st Trusted Choice Big I National Championship, this win is the biggest of his junior career. This is a major win. After getting to the semi-finals at this year’s US Junior, it has to feel good. And, to top it off, with this victory comes an automatic placement on the 2010 U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team. Oh yeah, did you hear he also qualified for the 2010 US Amateur to be played later this month?
