McCarthy Moves to 4-Under and Fifth Place After 2nd Round at Thunderbird

Burtonsville’s Denny McCarthy is competing in the AJGA’s Thunderbird International Junior at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ this Memorial Day weekend. After a first round 1-under 71, McCarthy was tied for 11th.  Now, after round two and a very solid 3-under, he finds himself in the top 5.  In fact, he is tied with none other than Jordan Spieth of Dallas, TX, the number one player in the country and Gavin Hall of Pittsford, NY.   First round leader Anthony Paolucci of Del Mar, CA added to his lead by matching McCarthy’s 3-under 69.  Add that to his first round 66 for a cool 9-under going into the 3rd and final round.  Only five strokes separate Paolucci and the top 5.

For the third round, McCarthy (71-69, 140) is paired with fourth place Shun Yat Hak of Lake Mary, FL (73-66, 169) and Hall (73-67, 140).
