Here’s Your Sign – Read’em!

May 8, 2010 by

How many times have you wandered into the rough, a hazard, or other area that is seriously lacking in the “short grass?” If you play like me, it’s often.  Now, how many times have you found yourself in one of those areas and didn’t notice those little signs attached to a red, yellow, white, or other colored stake BEFORE you entered that area?  If you are like me, it’s often.  Now, these signs are helpful.  Let there be no mistake about it.  They offer information about the area where your ball may have found itself.  Again, if you are like me, I usually enter the rough or other area where my ball first crossed the margin and begin my search from there, working my way up the course toward the green.  Most times (if not always), the front of those little signs are facing the fairway and are spread out.  Unless you enter the area near one of those signs, you are not likely to read that “useful” information until perhaps your search takes you near one of them.  Well, my strategy on searching those areas may have changed after coming across this sign.  I had searched the area completely before making my way out of the lateral hazard and read the sign ~  My new strategy – Look for a sign, if there is one, read it before entering!
