Nationwide Tour Gives Exemption Nod to AJGA Junior PLAYERS Champ

The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) has just announced that the AJGA’s 2010 Junior PLAYERS Champion will recieve an exemption  into the Nationwide Tour’s Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open.   This will likely become the most sought-after entry on the entire AJGA Tour.  For more details on this breaking story see the AJGA’s website.

Local Juniors Represent Well In AJGA

The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) recently held the AJGA Junior at Innisbrook hosted by the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, FL.  The DC Metro Area had several players in the tournament and they all made the cut.

Jay Pinkos (Clifton, VA) and Noori Hyun (Centreville, VA) tied for 17th with each posting a 54-hole total of 225 (12-over par).  Pinkos is a junior at Paul VI High School while Hyun is a junior at Centreville High School.

Tyler Wingo (Fairfax, VA) placed 30th with a 228 total.  Wingo is a junior and a teammate of Pinkos on the Paul VI golf team.  Nate Cohan (Gaithersburg, MD) tied for 37th with 229.  Wes Strang (Bethesda, MD) found himself in a tie for 65th at 235.  Cohan is a junior at Georgetown Prep while Strang is a senior.

JD Tomlinson (Gainesville, FL) won the Boys Division with a one-over 214 that  included a third round, 3-under 68 to best another Floridian, Daniel Berger, for the top prize by one stroke. The Boys Division played the par-71 Copperhead Course at 7,330 yards.

Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, VA) posted an impressive 229 to finish tied for 23rd with on other player.  Coughlin is a junior and attends Hickory High School.  Sarah Brown (Severna Park, MD) finished tied for 66th with one other player, putting up a 252.  Brown is a junior at Severn School.

Stephanie Meadow (Jordanstown, Northern Ireland) played to even-par 70 in her final round to win the Girls Division with a 1-over 211.  The Girls Division played the North Course at 5,800 yards.

The competitive 210-player (130 Boys and 80 Girls) field featured players from 30 states, and 5 foreign countries.
