Polo Golf Junior Classic – First Round In The Books

November 23, 2009 by

The DC Metro Area is represented by four junior players in the 2009 Polo Golf Junior Classic being played at the PGA National Resort and Spa ~ Champion and Haig Courses which is  located in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.  To read more about the players, see our earlier article.

After the first round of stroke play, Kaitlyn Rohrback of Crofton, MD is tied for 35th after shooting a 77.  The top 32 players after two rounds of stroke play will move on to match play.  Doris Chenof Bradenton, FL is leading the division after carding a four-under 68.

In the Boys Division, Ji Soo Park of Centreville, VA is tied for 14th with a two-under par 70.  Park began the day off the 10th tee and was two over at the turn.  He transformed into a golfer with a mission and proceeded to tear up his back nine with a 32.  He had six birdies, two bogeys and a par.  He is one of only five players in the field to card a 32 for nine holes.  Hopefully, he can keep that momentum going into the next round.   Emiliano Grillo (Bradenton, FL), Oliver Schniederjans (Powder Springs, GA), Curtis Thompson (Coral Springs, FL), and Tanner Kesterson (Plano, TX) are tied for first after having shot 67.

Denny McCarthy of Burtonsville, MD is tied for 40th with a two-over 74.  He’s only seven strokes back from the leader.  He’s a veteran junior player that can get it done.  Besides, it’s not about winning over the next two days, it’s all about making it to match play and resetting.

Sean Bosdosh (Clarksburg, MD) finds himself tied for 65 after shooting a 77.  Some may look at this as insurmountable, but keep in mind that Bosdosh is very capable of going low.  Like Park and McCarthy, he is a seasoned junior player who doesn’t succumb to pressure.  Don’t count him out.

Ji Soo Park of Centreville, VA is tied for 14th after the first round of stroke play at the 2009 Polo Golf Junior Classic. Park shot a two-under 70.
