Urbana, Middletown Win Maryland Public Schools State Championship

The Class 4A/3A and 2A/1A State Championships are in the books. Urbana H.S. (327-325, 652) finished eight strokes better than the 2008 Champion Churchill H.S. to win the Class 4A/3A Championship. Urbana’s Chris DiSciullo led his team with a consistent 78-79 (157) that earned him a tie for 9th place in the medalist competition. Diana Brown led all Churchill players with 78-76 (154) that earned her Medalist in the Girls Division. In Class 2A/1A competition, Middletown H.S. claimed the title as they were ten strokes better (347-348, 695) than Marriotts Ridge H.S. The Middletown team followed the play of Alex Hoffman into the winner’s circle. Hoffman fired a two-day total of 146 (74-72) that was good enough to take Medalist in the Boys Division.
In the Boys individual competition, Andrew Yakubik of Damascus H.S. ended up four strokes behind Hoffman to claim runner-up while McKenzie Cutter from North Point H.S. shot 78-81 (159) to claim runner-up to Brown in the Girls Division.
The 2009 Championships were hosted by Potomac Ridge Golf Course in Waldorf, MD.
