National Letter of Intent Early Signing Period

October 29, 2009 by

The National Letter of Intent (NLI) early signing period for golf is November 11 through November 18, 2009.  Probably the greatest benefit that the golfer has in signing an NLI is the security of an athletic scholarship for the full, upcoming academic year (provided the golfer is accepted to the institution and is eligible for aid under the NCAA rules). As well, the institution has security in knowing that the golfer has committed to its program for the academic year.

Keep in mind that the NLI program is voluntary.  It is not a requirement on the part of the educational institution or on the part of the golfer.  Note that all Division I schools (except the Service Academies and Ivy League) and the large majority of Division II schools participate in the NLI program.

The regular signing period is April 14 through August 1, 2010.
