Damascus Wins 3A/4A District Championship

Damascus High School was crowned the District 2 (Montgomery County, MD) 3A/4A Golf Champions for the 2009 season. They edged out Churchill by four strokes, 314 – 318. Walt Whitman placed third, 13 strokes behind the Champions. All three teams qualified for the State Championship to be played at Potomac Ridge Golf Course October 19 – 21. Montgomery County District Championship 9/29

Poolesville Golf Course will host the Montgomery County High School District Championship on Tuesday, September 29. The top four teams, by overall regular season stroke average, are separated by less than 3 1/2 strokes. Those teams are Damascus, Churchill, Wooten and Walt Whitman. They are all from the Yachmetz Divsion.
From Damascus, Brett Myers and Andrew Yakubik will likely play roles in their team’s finish. From Churchill, look for Diane Browne and Bradley Rotter to step up. Read more
A Wet Start to the Lee’s Hill Open

Competitors toughed it out in the first round of the Capital Area Golf Tour’s “Lee’s Hill Open” in Fredericksburg, VA under less than favorable weather conditions. With temperatures only in the high 60′s as the first groups were heading out onto the course, the rain began as a scattered drizzle, off and on. However, deeper into the round, it became a bit more steady. And, by the time the last groups were making their way up 17 and 18, it was a steady rain that was forecasted to continue through the night.

Capital Area Golf Tour Comes to Lee’s Hill This Weekend

The Capital Area Golf Tour (cagt.org) will be holding the Lee’s Hill Open at Lee’s Hill Golf Course this weekend. The course is located in Fredericksburg, VA. The event features junior players from around the region competing in a two-day 36-hole stroke play tournament. The first group tees off at 12 noon on Saturday (9/26). The tournament is open to the public, so if you are in the area, stop by and cheer on the juniors. Read more
Westfield, Lake Braddock Win Their District Championships

At the final round of the Concorde District Championship Westfield staged a comeback led by senior Wes Liu and junior Shabril Brewer who both found 70. Two other seniors, Tim Ritter was at 72 and Jimmy Sanders, came in at 74. Westfield, who began the day 4 strokes back, played nine strokes better than Chantilly in the final round to win by five. Madison Wins Liberty District, Holds Off Langley Charge

Coming into the final round of the Liberty District Championship, held at Herndon Centennial Golf Course, Madison had a seven stroke lead over Langley. Madison senior Joe Moloney shot 67 on the first day, giving his team a cushion that they would end up needing to hold on and maintain its distance from Langley. Read more
Lake Braddock, Chantilly On Top in First Day of their District Championships

The Lake Braddock Bruins came out on fire on this first day of the two-day Patriot District Championship being held at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Clifton, VA posting a team score of 304 to take the lead over West Springfield by 9 strokes. Junior Kenny Towns led the way for the Bruins with the low overall round of 71. Two other Bruins juniors, Justin Burns and Sam Kim, kicked in 76 and 77, respectively, to help the effort. Read more
Falls Church Leads at National District Championship

The first round of the National District Championship, being played at Greendale Golf Course in Alexandria, VA concluded with Falls Church (317) leading Hayfield by 13 and Yorktown by 18. Regardless of where each may finish, all 8 teams, down to the last player could be seen putting forth their best effort to help their team finish in the best possible position.
